Description
To provide real-time neurophysiological monitoring during surgical procedures to help
prevent neurological injury, with occasional responsibilities in performing diagnostic
evoked potential (EP) studies. Working under the supervision of a neurophysiologist, the
technologist serves as a critical member of the surgical team, providing timely feedback to
optimize patient safety and surgical outcomes. This role provides monitoring support for
spinal, vascular, and intracranial procedures that do not require advanced-level neuro
monitoring. Technologists in this position also participate in the IOM call rotation as
needed.
Requirements
Education and Experience
o Bachelor's degree and 1 year of relevant IOM experience required.
o Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certifications
o Certification by the American Board of Registration of
Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (ABRET) in IOM (CNIM) required within
6 months of hire
Essential Functions:
Strong understanding of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and electrophysiologic
principles.
Proficiency in EEG, EMG, SSEPs and TcMEPs modalities
Competent with Cadwell IOM monitoring system
Excellent critical thinking and real-time problem-solving skills.
Effective communication with surgical teams and supervising physicians.
Ability to function effectively in high-stress, time-sensitive surgical environments.
Commitment to patient safety and professional ethics.
Attentive to details and able to detect subtle changes in neural responses
Correctly setup and breakdown of IOM cases, ensuring proper electrode placement
and equipment functionality with minimal assistance from other IOM technologists
